Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s (DFO) are happy to announce the draft Policy for Applying Measures to Offset Harmful Impacts to Fish and Fish Habitat (Offsetting Policy) and draft Guidelines for Establishing and Managing Fish Habitat Banks (Banking Guidelines) are now available on the Talk Fish Habitat platform.

Later this month, the DFO's Fish and Fish Habitat Protection Program’s (FFHPP)  will host two national multi-interest group engagement sessions: one on the Offsetting Policy and one on the Habitat Banking Guidelines.

• Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at 12:30 pm for the Offsetting Policy Engagement Session
• Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at 12:30 pm for the Banking Guidelines Engagement Session

Please note that you must register for each session separately to reserve your spot for the online engagement sessions. When you click on the above link, the associated session page will open and you need to click on the “Reserve a Spot”. A form to fill out will then appear to register for the session.

These sessions will each include a presentation followed by a Q&A session with subject matter experts. Please explore the Talk Fish Habitat platform to access all supporting material and participate in the activities.  All supporting background material will be made available on the platform for review before each session.

FFHPP has also updated the Talk Fish Habitat platform to include background information on the new Interim Standard and Codes of Practice. The new Interim Standard and Codes of Practice (SCoPs) will be available for use through this summer’s in-water construction season. FFHPP will be seeking further feedback this fall.
