You will oversee a team of skilled project managers providing day to day supervision, mentoring and coaching.

An Engineer in Development Engineering at the City of Toronto acts as a case manager in the review of development applications made under the Planning Act, including official plan amendments, secondary plans, subdivisions, re-zonings, land divisions, site plans and condominium proposals. As such, you will be responsible for coordinating all City infrastructure-related comments and correspondence to Community Planning, Legal and Finance, as well as reviewing engineering studies and plans (including servicing, stormwater management and geotechnical reports) submitted in support of development applications. The role of Engineer will also see you determining the scope and cost of all new City infrastructure required to support proposed developments, and discussing, negotiating and reviewing development agreements to ensure that all infrastructure-related matters are properly addressed. Another key aspect of this job will involve overseeing the construction of the development-related municipal infrastructure, including providing direction to inspection staff to ensure compliance with the accepted design, City policies and by-laws, and the management of associated financial securities.

Under the general supervision of the City Engineer and Managing Director of Environmental & Engineering Services, the Director is fully accountable for a number of specialized areas within the Water & Wastewater Service Area, namely, the Water Engineering Division, the Water Operations Division, the Regional Water Supply Division, Wastewater Engineering, Wastewater Treatment, Wastewater Collection, Stormwater Management and Drainage Engineering. The Director is accountable to the City Engineer for staff reports to Council and its Committees in all matters pertaining to such specialized areas. Within the Service Area itself, the Director is accountable for the business planning and human resource management and leadership relevant to each specific Division.

The successful candidate will contribute and learn in a challenging and productive professional engineering environment, review of the design of subdivisions, and provide support for infrastructure planning initiatives such as Municipal Class Environmental Assessments (EAs) of water, wastewater, and/or stormwater management projects. Duties:
- Responsible for the design of municipal infrastructure for re-construction projects (sanitary sewer, storm sewer, water main, sidewalk, roads, drainage, etc.);
- Provide technical support to all departments with regards to structural design, reviews and remedial work practices;
- Responsible to update and maintain all bridges and road assets and provide detailed reports for planning purposes;
- Manage data acquisition and coordinate activities between departments (MDW, PSAB, GIS, etc.);
- Responsible to provide technical information with regards to water and sanitary capacities in all areas of the municipality;
- Provide field supervisory support to Engineering Manager for City of Timmins capital Projects;
- Assist Engineering Manager in obtaining project approvals from various levels of government (MOE, MNR, Fisheries, etc.);
- Provide project management support to City of Timmins capital projects;
- Participate in the preparation of Request for Proposal and Request for Tenders for municipal Projects; and
- Undertake engineering studies and reviews as required to improve efficiency of operations.
