Under the general guidance and direction of the Senior Construction Engineer, the Construction Engineer position is responsible for undertaking, directing and administering construction contracts for capital projects related to the City’s roads, sidewalks, and bridges; sanitary sewerage; storm sewerage; stormwater management; drainage; water supply, storage and distribution; parking; traffic signals; airport; and infrastructure rehabilitation. Additionally, this position assists in the planning of capital projects for expansions and improvements to the City’s infrastructure and provides technical advice and guidance with respect to the impact of development on municipal networks. Overall, this position plays an integral role in managing assigned capital projects to ensure projects are delivered on scope, on schedule and within budget in accordance with City standards, and to enable the City of Barrie to continue to deliver the services that it provides; maintain community sustainability; and to provide a high quality of life for the citizens and visitors of the City of Barrie.

Oversee the review by technologists of development applications to confirm compliance with County design requirements. Liaise with the Community Planning Division, external development teams and represent the Division during development reviews. Develop project scope in various infrastructure areas in consultation with client departments and divisions. Prepare consultant and contractor procurement documents and participate in selection and administration of these goods and services.

The Chief Building Official is responsible for the management, direction and operation of Building Services. This includes administration and enforcement of the Building Code Act and Ontario Building Code (plans examination, permit issuance, inspection and order issuance for noncompliance), enforcement of other applicable legislation and regulations (Property Standards, Swimming Pools, and other various by-laws). He/she also administers and manages the function of maintenance and capital improvement for municipal facilities within the corporation of the City of Niagara Falls.

Reporting to the Director of Public Works the Deputy Director of Public Works will be responsible for the Engineering and Environmental Services and supporting the Director of Public Works in the direction of the Public Works Division.
