    Combine your civil engineering degree and experience in transportation planning and traffic engineering in this full-time opportunity with the City of Markham's Engineering Department to co-ordinate and manage a range of transportation and traffic studies and assessments.

    As a transportation engineer, you will be a key member of the transportation planning group and have a direct reporting relationship to the Manager, Transportation. You will act as project manager on various in-house or consultant-driven transportation studies, overseeing the work of junior staff, and be responsible for coordinating master plans, including the Markham Transportation Strategic Plan. You will also manage travel demand forecasting and review technical assessments and traffic impact studies crucial for various plans and studies, traffic calming and access and circulation assessments, to name a few.

    KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (DELIVERABLES)
    More specifically, as a Transportation Engineer, you will:
    • Provide project management for transportation studies undertaken by in-house staff or consultants.
    • Monitor and co-ordinate updates as well as the implementation of various master plans, including the Markham Transportation Strategic Plan and various studies.
    • Review, and report on, Master Plan studies by external agencies, e.g., York Region, Metrolinx.
    • Manage travel demand forecasting projects and/or oversee technical assessments undertaken by the transportation engineer or consultant, including query and assessment of model outputs.
    • Co-ordinate resources and oversee technical assessments undertaken internally or with external resources.
    • Review technical assessments and transportation impact studies for Official Plan Amendment Applications, Zoning Bylaw Amendment Applications, Subdivision Applications, and Site Plan Applications.
    • Review engineering plans for subdivisions and site plans.
    • Co-ordinate with development teams to support transportation reviews.
    • Disseminate findings and study implications to senior staff.
    • Prepare reports for the manager, senior staff, Council and committees.
    • Write reports for area-specific and special studies.
    • Prepare proposals and project management of consulting services.
    • Respond to studies and queries from consultants, other municipalities, businesses and residents. • Participate in public meetings, and presentations to residents.
    • Represent the City’s interest in technical advisory committees.

    Your professional profile as Transportation Engineer will include:
    • Degree in Civil Engineering, with a minimum of 3 years of related experience in the field of transportation planning and/or traffic engineering.
    • Licensure as a Professional Engineer.
    • Excellent customer service, supervisory, written and communication skills.
    • A proven ability to oversee the work of junior staff.
    • A proven understanding of various transportation assessments.
    • Familiarity with travel demand forecasting and basic understanding of various transportation-related software packages (HCS, CCG, Synchro / Simtraffic, Emme).
    • Excellent computer skills, including a working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software.
    • As a condition of employment, a valid Ontario driver’s licence, a satisfactory driver’s abstract and access to a reliable vehicle are required.
    • Ability to attend public meetings outside normal work hours, as required.

    The salary range for this temporary, full-time position is $75,502 to $88,833 per annum.

    Job Summary:
    To lead and manage staff responsible for the implementation as well as the operation and maintenance of Toronto Water's Process Control Systems (PCS), including divisional network services, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Systems maintenance and integration services, and capital project support.

    Major Responsibilities:
    • Develops and implements detailed plans and recommends policies regarding program-specific requirements.
    • Manages, motivates and trains Unit staff, ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality and organizational performance, and continuous learning, and encouraging innovation in others.
    • Supervises the day-to-day operation of all assigned staff, including scheduling, assigning and reviewing work, authorizing and controlling vacation and overtime requests, monitoring and evaluating staff performance, approving salary increments and recommending disciplinary action when necessary.
    • Develops, recommends and administers the annual budget for the Unit, and ensures that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations.
    • Cultivates a culture of continuous improvement within the Unit, evaluating program delivery on an ongoing basis in consultation with staff, senior management, service users and partners, and implementing and managing change to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
    • Ensures that excellent customer service is provided to both internal and external customers.
    • Leads, facilitates, and contributes to the design, creation, development and sustainment of divisional standards, procedures, guidelines and/or policies for SCADA and process control technology and operating environment, including formalized project management and delivery methodology, data retention and solution architecture, implementation and change management, development and migration of codes and configurations of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and other devices, and documentation.
    • Keeps current with new PCS/SCADA technology trends and regulatory requirements, and provides recommendations on the effective use, best practices, acquisition and integration of technology at the City.
    • Manages the identification, control, tracking and audit of PCS/SCADA items within the information technology (IT) infrastructure.
    • Provides specialized technical support in the design, construction, installation and daily operation of process control systems and SCADA equipment at Toronto Water facilities.
    • Provides support to capital works projects regarding process control systems, including input into design, contract specifications, factory acceptance testing and site acceptance testing.
    • Manages the maintenance of, and updates to, the library of Process Control & Instrumentation Diagrams for Toronto Water facilities.
    • Manages the Division's IT network services, including local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN) and the associated physical hardware, including network switches, routers, wireless and cellular modem access points, patch panels, cable trays, conduits, copper and fibre-optic cable and terminations.
    • Ensures the security of the Division's IT network services.
    • Develops and maintains policies and guidelines associated with the Division's IT network services.
    • Coordinates with the IT Division regarding leased network services for routing and WAN lines.
    • Contributes to the development of key performance indicators for the Unit, and is responsible for monitoring and regular reporting, including key performance indicators and assigned performance targets and projects delivered by the Unit.
    • Provides oversight and appropriate allocation of staff and financial resources, and ensures effective project management with the defined scope, schedule and requirements for projects undertaken by the Unit.
    • Provides professional expertise in the preparation of Emergency Planning initiatives led by the City’s Office of Emergency Management or Toronto Water, as required.
    • Provides professional expertise during emergencies in regards to safety concerns associated with Toronto Water's process control systems.
    • Prepares technical reports and staff reports to Standing Committees and/or Council, and material for public education / communication purposes.
    • Represents the Division, Cluster and/or City at meetings with the public, clients, stakeholders, Councillors and their staff, Standing Committees, Community Councils, City Council, and court proceedings, and on internal and external committees.

    The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) is seeking a Project Construction Specialist

    With a particular focus on urban stormwater management, environmental enhancement and streambank and valley restoration projects, this position will provide field expertise and professional leadership in the construction of a variety of engineering projects including providing input on designs, developing detailed construction estimates, supervising work crews and contractors, ensuring compliance with design specifications, approvals and funding commitments, and monitoring the progress of projects.

    What you offer:

    POSITION SUMMARY
    • Reporting to the Director, Public works Department, the Manager will support and/or directly provide day-to-day operations management in conjunction with the management team, with Public Works for supervisory staff in areas related to Roads and Sidewalks (including winter control), Parks and Sports Fields Maintenance and Horticulture and Forestry;
    • Responsible for development, implementation and/or updates of various Public Works service plans, including but not limited to; Winter Control Plan, Salt Management Plan, Parks Asset Management Plan, Urban Forest Management Plan;
    • Assist with the development and updating of; Strategic Operational and annual work plans, resource utilization and acquisition plans;
    • Support effectiveness and efficiency improvements consistent with and in support of the City’s Official Plan and Public Works Operational Plan;
    • Assist in identifying departmental policy gaps and lead corresponding policy development and implementation as required;
    • Coordinate inter department communications and work with stakeholders in engineering, planning, traffic, parks development, transit, fleet, Utilities Kingston; to develop and enhance daily operations and the policy goals of the City;
    • Manage Arboriculture division of Public Works including but not limited to; daily operational demands, Multi-Year Emerald Ash Borer Impact Cost Mitigation Strategy, Urban Forest Management Plan, Tree Inspection and Planting programs;
    • Responsible for coordinating building maintenance demands in conjunction with Facilities Maintenance division;
    • Responsible for development and tendering of all departmental tenders and/or RFP’s, including but not limited to; annual updates, new requests, tendering/receiving, submission review/selection, draft reports to Council, contract award and signing;

    QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES
    • Minimum Certified Engineering Technician (CET);
    • Preference may be given to a candidate with a P.Eng. designation;
    • 5 Years working in a management position, within a unionized environment, leading and directing supervisors;
    • Understanding of and minimum 5 Years experience with Public Works related operations in a municipal or private sector (Roads and Sidewalks), Parks and Sports Field maintenance, Horticulture and Arboriculture);
    • Hands-on experience in Heavy Municipal Construction and/or Municipal Maintenance Industry would be an asset;
    • Must demonstrate corporate competencies: Customer Focus, Results Orientation, Integrity, and Teamwork.
