As an Engineer in Development Engineering, you will act as a case manager in the review of development applications made under the Planning Act, including official plan amendments, secondary plans, subdivisions, re-zonings, land divisions, site plans and condominium proposals.
As case manager, you will be responsible for coordinating all City infrastructure-related comments and correspondence to Community Planning, Legal and Finance, and reviewing engineering studies and plans (including servicing, stormwater management and geotechnical reports) submitted in support of development applications. You will also determine the scope and cost of all new City infrastructure required to support proposed developments, as well as discuss, negotiate and review development agreements to ensure that all infrastructure-related matters are properly addressed. Combining your engineering expertise and leadership abilities, you will oversee the construction of the development-related municipal infrastructure, including providing engineering support and guidance to inspection staff to ensure compliance with the accepted design, City policies and by-laws, and the management of associated financial securities.

Responsible for executing strategic and transformational projects aimed at achieving the strategic goals and objectives of the City of Vaughan; develops and maintains the City’s framework for continuous improvement; collaborates with staff to identify, analyze, prioritize, develop, implement and track opportunities to transform the business using innovative ideas, process improvement and by leveraging technology; provides expertise in process design, enterprise level integration of business processes, identifying technology solutions, managing risks and enhancing customer experience to drive innovation for the corporation; project management and change management while implementing innovation and process improvement initiatives; liaises with other municipalities and organizations to identify trends in business transformation that impact the change levers of people, process and technology; implements process improvement and technology deployment strategies aligned with the Corporation’s strategic vision, direction and Service Excellence priorities. Projects will include, but are not limited to: business process reviews and analysis, technology enhancements, electronic service delivery, implementation of regulatory changes. and change management of business processes.

Reporting to the Public Works Superintendent, you will be the Township’s Overall Responsible Operator (ORO) for both Water & Wastewater as per current MECP legislation. You will be responsible for supervising and training of Operations field staff (unionized) and managing the daily operation and maintenance of the Township’s water distribution and wastewater collection systems. Involvement as the lead with respect to the Drinking Water Quality Management System as legislated by the MECP, which includes internal and external auditing. You will also provide back-up coverage for the Public Works Superintendent as well as be involved in winter operations.
