As an Engineer in Development Engineering, you will act as a case manager in the review of development applications made under the Planning Act, including official plan amendments, secondary plans, subdivisions, re-zonings, land divisions, site plans and condominium proposals.
Being a case manager means coordinating all City infrastructure-related comments and correspondence addressed to Community Planning, Legal and Finance, and reviewing engineering studies and plans (e.g., servicing, stormwater management and geotechnical reports) submitted in support of development applications. Based on such reviews, you will determine the scope and cost of all new City infrastructure required to support proposed developments, and discuss, negotiate and review development agreements to ensure that all infrastructure-related matters are properly addressed. Ultimately, it will be your role as an Engineer to oversee the construction of the development-related municipal infrastructure, including providing engineering support and guidance to inspection staff to ensure compliance with the accepted design, City policies and by-laws and the management of associated financial securities.
There are four positions available, both permanent full-time and temporary full-time (12 months).

You will bring to the District five (5) years directly related progressive experience, preferably in Municipal Development Engineering, including a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a supervisory or management capacity. Thorough knowledge of applicable legislation, standards and guidelines related to Development Engineering coupled with demonstrated technological proficiency and a thorough knowledge of Civil Engineering practices and Planning principles.
In terms of education, you will have a University degree in Engineering, preference given to a civil engineering program graduate. You will also be a member in good standing and will be licensed to practice in Ontario with the Professional Engineers Ontario.

Lead the development and ongoing maintenance of a corporate asset management program. Develop and supervise long-term asset management strategies, inventory and plans for building and site assets.

Reporting to the Manager of Design and Construction, Engineering Services, the Design Technologist is part of a dynamic team of professionals under the leadership of the Design Engineer(s) and is responsible for the design and project management of roads, sanitary and storm sewers, watermains and related municipal infrastructure projects. The Design Technologist will be expected to prepare capital project cost estimates, quantity take offs and calculations, develop detailed design drawings, tender contract documents, drawings and contract administration inclusive of site meetings, preparation of payment certificates, liaison with consultants, contractors and residents through to completion of the capital project. Other responsibilities include communication, coordination, reporting and preparation of applications for approval authorities such as Ministry agencies, the Grand River Conservation Authority, external agencies and internal departments.

Reporting to the Manager, Engineering Division, you will facilitate and oversee the administration of in-house and consultant administered infrastructure projects. This includes preparing design criteria/plans/specifications; preliminary and detailed project material and cost estimates; conducting field inspection and site supervision, and; evaluating roadway surface and base conditions.
