A Professional Engineer with civil and/or municipal engineering experience will be interested in joining Markham’s Development Services Commission in this leadership role. Reporting to the Director, Engineering, you will perform the strategic coordination function of the Special Engineering Projects Section, and be responsible for the overall coordination of special engineering projects in the Engineering Department. This will include coordinating, on behalf of the Corporation, all Metrolinx strategies and projects impacting Markham, including negotiations and agreements.
More specifically, as a Senior Manager, Special Projects, you will:
•Coordinate with Regional and Provincial agencies, on behalf of the Corporation, relating to road/bridge projects in Markham, including negotiations, financial arrangements and agreements.
•Implement the Cycling and Trail Master Plan, including coordination of the CPAC Committee, environmental assessment studies and review of development/capital projects for compliance.
•Prepare and implement a Parking Strategy for Markham, including coordination of Council Steering Committee.
•Prepare the Hard Services component of the Development Charges By-law for growth to 2031 (± $1 billion), including preparing credit agreements, responding to appeals, etc.
•Coordinate strategic engineering issues in Markham, including coordination of engineering studies (subwatershed, transportation, serving) for our Future Urban area.
•Coordinate the Anti-Whistling Steering Group and report to Council regarding funding and recommendations.
•Coordinate the Inflow/Infiltration pilot project with developer and Region to secure additional servicing allocation.
•Handle Freedom of Information requests and coordination of Best Effort Recovery.
•Coordinate Metrolinx, Viva, GO and other transit projects in Markham.
•Other duties as assigned. -

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Manager of Engineering is responsible for Engineering and Asset Management, including program planning, capital budgets and forecasts, road reconstruction, surveys, drafting and GIS records management for municipal public works infrastructure, as well as electrical distribution system.
The ideal candidate shall have a minimum of four (4) years of management/supervisory experience, as well as a four (4) year Engineering degree, preferably in Civil Engineering or related discipline. Registration as a Professional Engineer with the PEO and a registered member of the Ontario Society of Engineering are both required. Experience within a municipal setting would be considered an asset.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Reporting directly to the Director, this role is responsible for the leadership in the delivery of the approved service levels for roads, sidewalks, signs, storm sewers, roadside environment, ditches, bridges and culverts, street lighting, storm water management facilities, and fleet equipment for the Town. The Manager, Road & Fleet Services is responsible for the leadership of approximately 40 full time employees, as well as seasonal and student staff. Four (4) supervisors support the Manager in delivering safe, efficient and well maintained infrastructure. This position carries the significant oversight responsibility for labour management, service level delivery, public safety and budget compliance.
