This position is responsible for providing support to the Chief Building Official and the management team with the administration and enforcement of the Building Code Act (BCA) and the Ontario Building Code (OBC). Also responsible for developing policies and standard operating guidelines and for conducting research related to relevant legislations, case law, standards and policies, building code interpretations, best practices and enforcement. This position will also assist with administering and providing technical expertise for files under litigation.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Manager – Environment, and a member of the Divisional Management Team, the Plant Superintendent is responsible for managing the human and financial resources of the Water Pollution Control Plant and Stations Section (through section supervisors); overseeing the operation and maintenance activities of the wastewater treatment facility and pumping stations; providing technical expertise for wastewater treatment process technologies; and overseeing the management of large projects and contracts within the Section.
DIVISIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Participates as a member of the Environment Division management team by providing input into Divisional organizational and operational reviews, human resource management, budget issues, technical matters and major issues management. Also participates by providing input into the identification and development of Divisional policies, strategic initiatives, projects, and priorities. -

Responsible for: ensuring linear infrastructure installations conform to City of Vaughan standards. Conducts contract administration including administering the provisions of subdivision agreements, specifications and capital projects. Responding to complaints, and matters stemming from municipal servicing projects and agreements. Acting as City representative in accordance with City policy when infractions to Provincial Health and Safety legislation are observed. Reviewing drawings, plans etc. for work progress / completion, retains external contractors as necessary, providing clearance documentation for City assumptions; utilizing database for input/retrieval of information and performs various inventory count on City property as required. -

ROADS SUPERVISOR (approx. 1 year contract)

To continue providing top-notch transportation services to the City’s residents, Vaughan is now seeking a Roads Supervisor.
Working with the other members of the Roads management team, for the next year, the Roads Supervisor will be responsible for:
• Supervising and scheduling assigned City staff involved in the maintenance and repair of the City’s roads, sidewalks, curbs, traffic signs, street lights, traffic signals, water courses, boulevards and bridges
• Supervising and co-ordinating winter operation activities including sanding, salting, ploughing, windrow clearing and snow removal
• Ensuring departmental and Occupational Health and Safety regulations are met; performing routine inspections of work sites, reviewing plans and coordinating special event requirements
• Assisting in the preparation of contract specifications and monitoring contractor performance
• Coordinating equipment maintenance and participating in the purchase of new equipment and materials (in conjunction with the Fleet Division)
• Responding to and/or addressing inquiries from the public, Council, contractors and City staff and liaising with same as required -

Under the direction of the Director of Public Works, organizes and directs the operations, maintenance, administration, planning, design, and construction of the County road system, vehicular fleet, two-way radio equipment, radio towers and buildings.
Minimum Qualifications: University Degree or College Diploma in Civil Engineering and membership in OACETT or equivalent. Membership with the Professional Engineers of Ontario is considered an asset; minimum 8 years experience in public works, municipal engineering, roads, facilities, including previous supervisory experience and preferably in a unionized environment; knowledge of statutes and regulations for road construction and maintenance, facilities and fleet management; effective management and supervisory skills including verbal and written communication, time management, computer literacy and customer service; knowledge of applicable provincial legislation and regulations in all areas of responsibility; financial experience pertaining to budget preparation, monitoring, and forecasting; and a valid Ontario driver’s license required.
