    POSITION PURPOSE
    Reporting to the Manager, Infrastructure, Project Liaison and Communications, is responsible for managing large scale complex Infrastructure projects and on-going moderate projects supporting the rapid transit initiatives within the Region, through all phases, including scope, planning, tracking, monitoring, scheduling and implementation; and managing communications and quality control related to the projects; supporting the capital delivery of multi-year strategic programs and projects such as the operations and maintenance facility for BRT, bus terminals, the commuter parking strategy and for the planning, and development of Regional assets; acting as liaison and coordinating with various levels of government, Regional and Municipal Departments; and overseeing and providing technical input to transit planning studies, service plans, procurement strategies, as undertaken by the Region, YRT, and YRRTC.

    Reporting to the Program Manager, Delivery Implementation, is responsible for providing environmental expertise to both internal staff and external consultants and contractors in order to ensure that environmental legislation and related policies and procedures are adhered to during the delivery and implementation of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, with the goal of maintaining the quality of the systems used while minimizing harmful impacts on the surrounding environment.

    The Town of Whitby, Durham’s Business Centre, a rapidly expanding and progressive community with a population of 120,000 and located approximately 50 km east of Toronto, is currently seeking a highly motivated and energetic individual for a one year term.

    Reporting to the Commissioner of Public Works, the Manager of Transportation and Parking Services is responsible for organization, administration, management and direction of all related functions and providing technical expertise and support to other divisions, departments and outside agencies on related issues. Other duties include, but are not necessarily limited to: supervision of technical staff; analysis and assessment of long range transportation planning of multi-modal systems, traffic operations, control systems and devices; providing guidance in the identification of existing and future transportation deficiencies and providing recommendations and guidance on mitigating measures; responding to public inquiries; plan, design and manage public parking systems; manage parking enforcement and revenue systems and respond to stakeholder and public inquiries; provide advice and recommendations on traffic control and operational devices to be implemented; identify transportation requirements and opportunities for capital initiatives and programs, development and mechanisms for receiving alternate forms of revenue for transportation and parking related projects; preparation of the capital and operating budgets; and, managing all aspects of the School Crossing Guard Program.

    As the successful candidate, you will possess a university degree recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities in Civil Engineering; maintain registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario in good standing; a minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in the transportation engineering field, preferably in a municipal or public sector environment, five (5) of which are in a supervisory capacity; possess a strong technical knowledge and understanding of applicable industry standards, best practices, principles, municipal by-laws and systems; proven ability to effectively lead and supervise staff; possess excellent team building skills; possess well-developed organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills; superior reasoning skills essential for problem solving, critical evaluation, and the ability to reach conclusions and make decisions based on factual information, policy and research; excellent conflict management skills; possess proven financial management and budgeting skills; excellent oral and written communication skills in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, staff, consultants, the general public, community organizations and other regulatory officials; an ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines; an ability to exercise discretion, judgement and diplomacy; possess an ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently with minimal supervision; possess an intermediate level working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel); and, possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License (minimum Class “G”) with access to a personal vehicle.

    Senior Project Managers

    Consider this challenging opportunity to use your traffic engineering and project management expertise to provide leadership in the areas of traffic operations and safety.

    In this role, you will:
    •provide technical expertise and leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality traffic engineering services related to the planning, design, construction, corridor management, maintenance and operation of provincial highways of various complexities for an area within Central Region
    •provide expert technical consultation and advisory services to internal and external clients on traffic engineering issues

    Notes:
    •The permanent position will provide traffic expertise for the Highway 427 extension.
    •One temporary position will provide traffic expertise for an area within Central Region West.
    •One temporary position will provide traffic expertise supporting the delivery of the 2015 Pan/Parapan Am Games.

    Mandatory:
    •you have a valid Class G driver's licence

    Technical Knowledge:
    •you have knowledge of and demonstrated experience in traffic engineering including traffic standards and practices related to signing, traffic operations, pavement markings, traffic signals and systems, collision analysis, human factors, illumination, traffic data collection management and analysis
    •you have the ability to interpret and apply government policies, procedures and guidelines and relevant legislation and standards related to traffic engineering (e.g. Highway Traffic Act, Ontario Traffic Manual)

    •you are able to provide technical leadership to staff

    •you can present traffic related proposals

    •you are able to investigate traffic engineering issues to assess risks, evaluate options for mitigation and make recommendations on complex traffic engineering issues

    Computer Skills:
    •you have knowledge of specialized software (e.g. relevant traffic engineering software, AutoCAD) and standard word processing, database, spreadsheet and e-mail software

    Salary range: $69,680.00 – $99,600.00 per year
