What can I expect to do in this role?

Planning and Scheduling Engineer/Officer

An experienced planner/scheduler, you will maintain project and work schedules, resource and cost plans, and provide consistent support for multi-disciplinary projects. You will assist in the development and integration of other planning and control documents such as project definition reports, project execution plans, estimates, and various other cost reports. A skilled collaborator, you will work with other project managers in procurement and construction, ensuring projects are properly planned, scheduled, and reported. Utilizing your ability to communicate clearly and effectively, you will evaluate and report on project status information, support the periodic project status review process, as well as supporting the integration of scheduling, estimating, and project cost and performance analysis. Flexible and adaptable, you will participate in the development and review of specific scheduling, estimating, and associated planning, as assigned, as well as review project planning and control techniques, tools, processes, and new software for potential application. In addition, you will contribute in the development and documentation of Engineering and Construction Services business processes, systems, and practices, and perform other duties as required.

What can I expect to do in this role?
You will provide the leadership necessary to avoid and resolve contract disputes (claims). You will accomplish this by:
•leading a team of professionals engaged in the resolution of claims
•providing senior level strategic engineering expertise for the development and implementation of creative management processes, systems and training to avoid and resolve claims
•representing the Ministry on internal/external committees and partnerships with our stakeholders to gain consensus for ministry initiatives and negotiate arrangements to resolve complex issues
•managing office staff including developing work plans and organizing workload assignments, hiring and directing staff, developing performance standards and managing performance

ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT
CAPITAL PLANNING AND DELIVERY BRANCH
Location: Newmarket, Ontario
Full-Time, Salary $36.45 - $39.62 per hour
Reporting to the Manager, Engineering and under the guidance of a senior staff, is responsible for carrying out assignments for specific projects or programs; conducting activities related to environmental water/wastewater or waste management programs or environmental assessment processes; assisting Department users with their business requirements; manipulating business data to produce reports for internal users and external clients; assisting in various projects and budget activities; and providing support in the research, design, analysis and planning activities of the Branch.
QUALIFICATIONS
-Successful completion of a three year Community College Diploma Program in Civil Engineering Technology or Environmental Studies.
-Up to one year experience working in Water and Wastewater.
-Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license and reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.
-Knowledge of applicable guidelines, procedures, standards and legislation including Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Knowledge of theory, principles and practices of public consultation process, program development, planning, design and construction and Water and Wastewater and/or Solid Waste Infrastructure.
-Knowledge of and demonstrated ability data management and basic query function.
-Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, team work, initiative, self-management, accountability, and flexibility/adaptability.
-Computer literacy utilizing MS software applications as well as demonstrated proficiency with the application of specialized software relevant to the technical specialty (e.g. AutoCad and Project Scheduling).
-Ability to provide technical support for projects under direction of Management and/or Senior staff.
-Ability to read, interpret and comment on technical reports, engineering drawings and maps.
-Ability to work outside regular business hours as required.

Director of Public Works

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Public Works Director will provide strong strategic leadership to dedicated employees and senior staff. You will be responsible for leading the road engineering and operations of the Public Works Department. You will provide sound professional advice, as well as timely, responsive, effective and efficient implementation of Council’s directives, policies and programs with a maintained focus on service improvement.
You bring a portfolio of success in developing and prioritizing capital infrastructure plans and strategies, and will continue to build on a strong foundation that supports Lanark County’s mandate. Along with exceptional leadership skills you possess exceptional judgment and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working partnerships with key stakeholders including council, staff and the community. The Director contributes to the work of the Executive Management Team by engaging the organization, and acting as a change agent to improve operations.
Candidate Requirements
The candidate we seek will have a minimum of eight years leadership experience ideally in the municipal sector with a Civil Engineering degree or Certified Engineering Technologies diploma. Through innovation and modeling best practices, the Director will encourage and lead an efficiency oriented, team of skilled professionals.
In addition to a competitive salary ($101,975 - $131,604) we offer a competitive compensation package.
