The Transportation Planning and Development Division will lead the development of the County’s Capacity Expansion Program to address future growth demands and manage the current impacts on the network through the application of appropriate Corridor Management techniques. The development and delivery of Active Transportation programs and related infrastructure is a core responsibility of this Division. Additional activities support the Department’s Asset Management Plans and the County’s role in regional development.
With responsibility for over 1,500 lane kilometers of County road network, working with other local, provincial and federal counterparts is key. You are a leading member of the Infrastructure Services department, with a budget of over $55MM and over 50 employees.

Reporting to the Manager, Transportation, you will be an integral member of the transportation planning group responsible for coordinating and managing various transportation planning studies and the review of development-related transportation studies made under the Planning Act, including official plan amendments, secondary plans, plans of subdivision, zoning by-law amendments, and site plans.

Under the general guidance and direction of the Senior Project Engineer (Environmental), the Project Engineer (Environmental) position is responsible for undertaking, directing, and administering environmental capital infrastructure projects related to the City’s water supply, treatment, storage, and/or distribution; wastewater collection, treatment, conveyance, and/or bio solids storage; and/or solid waste landfill. Additionally, this position assists in the planning of capital projects for expansions and improvements to the City’s environmental specific capital infrastructure, and provides technical advice and guidance with respect to the impact of development on municipal networks. Overall, this position plays an integral role in managing assigned environmental capital infrastructure projects to ensure projects are delivered on scope, on schedule, and within budget in accordance with City standards, and to enable the City of Barrie to continue to deliver the services that it provides; maintain community sustainability; and to provide a high quality of life for the citizens and visitors of the City of Barrie.

This position is responsible to the Director of Infrastructure Capital Planning (ICP) to coordinate and provide guidance for operational programs and capital projects in support of both the Water/Wastewater Master Plan and the Water/Wastewater Asset Management Plan.
