Preferred background for a Project Manager III, include a Post-Secondary Degree in Civil Engineering (or similar), Professional Engineering License and a minimum of seven to ten (7-10) years of directly related experience in the areas of design, construction, contract administration and the commissioning of water and wastewater (linear and facility) and/or transportation infrastructure. A Project Management Professional (PMP) designation would be an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Engineering CADD, prepares and/or coordinates the preparation of detailed Civil Engineering design/construction drawings (using CADD software), approvals and tender documentation for all Capital Works Engineering Contracts. Provides design/construction support to all Capital Works projects as well as liaises with various internal and external resources to ensure all documentation conforms to requirements, standards and procedures.

Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, Lighting Electrical, you’ll ensure that streetlighting capital projects are efficiently and effectively planned, designed, implemented and managed, and are delivered in accordance with City, Provincial and Federal guidelines in a cost-effective, timely manner through the best use of financial and staff resources. Your focus will be on meeting the City's responsibilities as a leader and steward in optimizing the planning, design and construction of street lighting capital projects, focusing on innovation in systems efficiency, reliability, energy savings and roadway safety, in keeping with City, Department, Division and Section visions, values and goals.
More specifically, as a Project Manager, Street Lighting Engineering, you’ll provide services in design, engineering, site inspection, construction administration, document preparation, and research and development of methodologies, as well as make recommendations and provide technical advice to senior staff, City Council, internal sections/departments and external agencies. We’ll also count on you to lead the way in preparing sectional reports identifying how Hamilton’s streetlighting system is performing against established benchmarks related to services, financial and administrative performance, and subsequently to investigate and recommend new procedures for improving system performance.
With your demonstrated record of technical competence, customer focus, staff delegation and empowerment, you’re equally prepared to participate with customers and other parties in cross-functional and cross-program initiatives, and to promote a service-oriented culture, teamwork and integration.

As an Engineering Intern (Water), you’ll plan, design, manage, and authorize the provision of engineering services, operations and assets in the Division for small projects, including engineering planning, asset management, environmental assessments, master planning, wastewater and water maintenance with established scope/guidelines, or for components of larger projects, under the supervision/direction of a supervisor or senior staff.
Your initial assignment will involve responsibility primarily for the ongoing implementation and continued improvements for Asset Management in Water Services, as well as supporting Corporate Asset Management Initiatives. Duties will include, but not be limited to, conducting inventory, condition, and capital planning assessments for water and wastewater assets, developing, prioritizing and tracking capital renewal projects, and providing input into Capital Programs.

As an Engineer within our Transportation Infrastructure Section, you’ll carry out assignments within a broad field of engineering, managing all aspects of assigned projects – from gathering and refining project scope, and preparing and inspecting drawings, engineering studies, specifications, plans and cost estimates, to determining the financial impact of projects and proposals. An integral part of your role will involve construction contract administration, including the preparation of change directives, change notices, RFQs and payment certificates, assisting in preparing project-related capital and operating budgets, and ensuring that expenditures are controlled within approved budget limitations.
