The focus and main duties of the Engineering Design & Construction Technologist/Inspector will be to complete detailed design and drawings for new and replacement infrastructure projects in the areas of storm and sanitary sewers, sidewalks and roads. Provide technical and administrative support in the preparation of final tender documents and for the review of engineering reports and drawings. The successful candidate may also be required, on a limited basis to provide onsite inspection and oversight of City construction projects to ensure the projects are built in accordance with plans and specifications, completed on time, within set budget limits and following proper safety procedures. Recommend optimum solutions based on knowledge of site conditions, methods and available materials, time factors and budget constraints.

Provide direct guidance, support and assistance to the administration of subdivision, site plan and
servicing agreements between the City of Vaughan and the development community focussing on
the lot grading division processes for all new subdivisions, infill lots and pool permits. In addition,
will perform site inspections as required (as part of the municipal inspection) and attend to
escalated complaints regarding lot grading and facilitates the resolution process. -
Reporting to the General Manager of Infrastructure and Growth, the Director of Engineering leads a team of 65 staff in the areas of Design & Construction Services, Development Services, Infrastructure Planning, and Corporate Asset Management.

Responsible for leading a multi-disciplinary team of building officials in the enforcement of the Building
Code Act and the Building Code to facilitate the timely completion of the Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital
(“MVH”), including review of applications, issuance of building permits and building inspections. MVH is a
City of Vaughan (”City”) Term of Council priority and requires close monitoring, coordination and support
by BSD in order to support the timely completion of the project. The incumbent is the primary contact from
BSD on all matters related to building permit processing, inspections, site visits and meetings with the
construction team and the owners/operators of the MVH. -

Reporting to the Manager, Utilities Engineering, the Engineer/EIT duties will include: short/mid-range infrastructure planning, asset management reporting, and planning involved in the construction and maintenance of water and wastewater infrastructure. Demonstrating leadership, coordination, technical and organizational skills, the incumbent will be responsible for the design, cost estimating, specification and tender document creation, and construction administration for various linear and facility infrastructure renewal projects. The incumbent will have demonstrated the ability to foster innovativeness by encouraging and being receptive to suggestion and new ideas and will have successfully applied change management strategies to facilitate the adaptation of new policies, procedures, and technologies. The incumbent will liaise with external agencies, internal departments and the general public on various projects.
The successful incumbent will be effective working in a team environment where consensus and cross-functional collaborations are critical to success and where customer/client service is appreciated and understood.
