ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIST
POSITION DUTIES:
Reporting to the Manager, Development Engineering, this position is responsible for implementing the Co-ordination and managing the approval process of new residential, industrial subdivisions and site plans by reviewing and approving engineering consultant designs and plans, including roads, storm sewers, storm water management facilities, drainage and grading. Liaises with internal and external stakeholders and ensures that Municipal and Provincial standards are adhered to and public and private interests are protected.
- Liaises with representatives of various internal and external agencies to assist in the mediation and negotiation of conflicting points of interest; ensuring appropriate decisions are reached on behalf of the Corporation and approvals are processed in a timely manner and milestones are reached.
- Analyses and approves detailed engineering designs and cost estimates submitted by consultants; ensuring project costs are accurate and realistic.
- Reviews the Conditions of Draft Approval, the approved Draft Plan of Subdivision and the engineering design to ensure that all engineering conditions have been addressed.
- Reviews schedules of the Subdivision Agreement to ensure implementation and compliance of all engineering conditions and requirements of the Draft Approval.
- Reviews and approves residential and industrial site plan engineering submissions as they relate to various plans and reports (i.e. grading, storm drainage and sewer, erosion, geotechnical and legal).
- Ensures designs are in compliance with Municipal and Provincial standards and accepted engineering practices, to protect the interests of the Corporation, adjacent property owners and the environment.
- Provides technical review on behalf of the Ministry of Environment (MOE) for Certificate of Approval applications related to storm sewer systems and storm water management ponds.
- Performs site inspections and liaises with consulting engineers, contractors and developers to ensure work is progressing as approved; reporting deficiencies immediately.
- Coordinates all engineering work on site plans and clears for security reduction and/or release.
- Requests issuance of a citation, initiates request for prosecution for non-compliance of approved plan and represents various divisions within the Corporation during prosecution.
- Assists in the initial review of studies and supporting engineering servicing reports to ensure environmental protection and requirements of draft approval are met and the design complies with Functional Servicing Reports (FSR).
- Ensures adequate securities and insurance have been provided for proposed work.
- Determines corrective action as it relates to petitions and complaints; ensuring issues are resolved efficiently and effectively.
- Responds to engineering inquiries from external agencies, consultants and the public.
- Maintains accurate and up to date records, both hard copy and electronic of all activities and correspondence related to the approval process.
- Attends meetings and represents the Section and/or Corporation as a member of numerous committees.
- Performs additional similar and related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School (Grade 12) plus an additional program of over two (2) and up to three (3) years in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent.
- Over four (4) years, up to and including eight (8) year of related experience
- Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation with the Ontario Association of Certified
Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) or registered with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
- Valid, non-probationary Ontario Class G Driver’s Licence.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

This leadership role is an excellent opportunity to apply your operations maintenance and management experience and your ability to operate a complex wastewater treatment system. As a Wastewater Treatment Process Superintendent, you will be responsible for the management, administration and oversight of the safe, efficient and effective delivery of Hamilton’s wastewater treatment programs. You will be expected to ensure regulatory compliance and assume all responsibilities as Overall Responsible Operator for the operation, control and optimization of the Wastewater Treatment Plants, wastewater pumping stations and CSO tanks within the City of Hamilton.
Your qualifications as Superintendent, Wastewater Treatment Process, include:
•Proven experience with, and knowledge of theories, practices and trends in an operations environment in maintenance and management, normally acquired by attaining an accredited Engineering degree at a recognized university or diploma from a three-year community college course in an accredited Engineering Technology program in Civil, Chemical, Environmental or Water/Wastewater related program.
•Possession of a Level IV Wastewater Treatment licence by exam from OWWCO/MOECC Ontario or ability to obtain a Level IV Wastewater Treatment licence by examination (Note: Prerequisite to write exam – you must be a Professional Engineer).
•Proven experience, knowledge and proficiency in the operation of a complex wastewater treatment system, and advanced knowledge, experience and competence in chemical, hydraulic and optimization computer models for wastewater treatment.
•Significant supervisory/management experience gained through progressively more responsible positions in the area of water/wastewater service delivery.
•Thorough knowledge and understanding of statutes, regulations and by-laws affecting the Department/Section such as Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change Acts, including, but not limited to, the Ontario Water Resources Act (OWRA), Nutrient Management Act, as well as the Ministry of Labour Acts and Regulations, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
•Demonstrated knowledge and experience in construction practices related to the wastewater industry, and in project management, with financial management skills such as developing, implementing and monitoring budgets.
•Proven ability to exercise sound judgment in emergency situations and highly effective leadership, facilitation, communication, presentation, interpersonal, conflict-resolution, organizational and multi-tasking skills.
•Ability to deal effectively with elected officials, representatives of other levels of government, management, peers, staff and the general public.
NOTE 1: As a condition of employment, the successful applicant will be required to obtain a satisfactory Police Information Check (PIC), at his/her own expense, prior to beginning work in this position.
NOTE 2: Must possess and maintain a Class "G" Driver's Licence valid in the Province of Ontario and a point-free driving record and/or record found to be satisfactory to the City of Hamilton.

Bring your operations maintenance and management experience and your ability to maintain complex water and wastewater treatment equipment to this exciting leadership role. As a Plant Maintenance Superintendent, you will be responsible for the management, administration and oversight of the safe, efficient and effective delivery of the maintenance program within the Plant Maintenance & Technical Services unit. You will assume the leadership for the planning, management, administration, operation, and upgrade of the City's mechanical, electrical and instrumentation equipment for the water and wastewater treatment facilities and outstations, including supervision of the trade supervisors.
Your qualifications as Superintendent, Plant Maintenance, include:
•Proven experience and knowledge of applicable theories, practices and trends in an operations environment in maintenance and management, normally acquired by attaining an accredited Engineering degree at a recognized university or diploma from a three-year community college course in an accredited Engineering Technology program in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
•Proven knowledge, experience, and proficiency in maintenance programs for complex water and wastewater treatment equipment.
•A high level of computer skills in the use of software applications such as MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook), spatial applications such as GIMS/Geomedia, and asset management applications such as Hansen and Enterprise Asset Management.
•Self-motivation with strong leadership capabilities, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
•Excellent skills in planning, organizing and implementing projects.
•Demonstrated financial management skills such as developing, implementing and monitoring budgets
. •Thorough knowledge and understanding of statutes, regulations, and by-laws affecting the Department/Section (e.g., acts/regulations including, but not limited to, the Environmental Protection Act, Ontario Water Resources Act, Nutrient Management Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, as well as Ministry of Labour acts and regulations).
•Previous demonstrated ability to effectively lead, manage and supervise multi-disciplinary staff in a results-oriented and a predominantly unionized environment.
•Excellent working knowledge of Collective Bargaining Agreements and processes, including grievance procedures.
•Previous project management experience related to maintenance projects, including preparation of contract specifications, tender documentation/award, project administration, and management of consultants/contractors.

Development Coordinator
1 Year Contract with the possibility of extension
King Township is seeking applications from qualified individuals for the 1 year contract position of Development Coordinator. With a population of approximately 24,000, King Township is a mostly rural community located 20 minutes north of Toronto in the Regional Municipality of York.
Reporting to the Deputy Director of Engineering & Development this position is responsible for the following:
•Reviewing and commenting on Draft Plans, background reports and studies in support of Draft Plans as they relate to Township infrastructure.
•Establishing Draft Plan conditions and any conditions of approval for the development that relate to Township infrastructure.
•Attending meetings related to development applications with external agencies, the public, and internal departments.
•Reviewing and commenting on engineering drawings, design sheets, estimates, and detailed reports (geotechnical, traffic, noise, archaeological, environmental, hydrogeological, and urban design) in support of the development design.
The successful applicant will possess:
•A Community College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology and a Certified Engineering Technologist designation or a University Degree (Bachelor) in Civil Engineering. A Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation would be an asset.
•A minimum of five (5) years municipal servicing engineering experience including minimum of three years (3) detailed design, development servicing or transportation engineering.
•A minimum of two (2) years of supervision and project administration experience.
Hourly rate: $41.75
