As a result of Marmak’s relationship with MFOA, MEA, OGRA, and ORFA this Level of Service Workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to gain and share practical knowledge. The LOS workshop is designed to benefit anyone regardless of their understanding of asset management. Our goal is to elevate the understanding and adoption of Asset Management. LOS comprises of a technical and customer component. The technical consists of engineering technical data identifying probability and consequence of failure. The customer component requires citizen engagement complete with financial ramifications.
- Learn about existing municipal standards and knowledge base.
- Understand the need and value of an integrated data repository.
- Establish Probability and Consequence of Failure matrixes.
- Establish LOS utilizing lifecycle events and associated costs.
- Understand how to establish a LOS relationship between various assets categories.
- Generate asset management updates and council reports.
Participants will gain practical knowledge utilizing their own sample data, create a LOS framework, and establish a road map to achieve technical independence. Participants will gain an understanding on how to prioritize municipal work. Marmak will provide ongoing support and access to various provincial associations' standards and web based tools.
PANELISTS:
BRIAN ANDERSON
An experienced municipal roads consultant, will be managing the road review service for Frank Cowan Company. He has 41 years’ experience building, maintaining and managing provincial and municipal roads. Brian has been a member of the Ontario Good Roads Association team for many years and facilitated the 2013 revision to Ontario Regulation 239/02 Minimum Maintenance Standards. He has also served on steering committees developing Ontario Traffic Manuals.
CHRIS TRAINI, P.Eng.
Chris Traini has been the County Engineer with the COunty of Middlesec for over 20 years. He enjoyes being involved with a number of organizations including the National Association of County Engineers and served as President of the Ontario Good Roads Association in 2019. Chris is currently serving as a member of the Boar of Directors of the Municipal Engineers Association.
JAMES SMITH
Dr. Smith plays a lead role in OGRA’s extensive asset management program which is designed to support municipalities as they take full control of the management of their tangible capital assets. James is the current Chair of the Transportation Association of Canada's Asset Management Task Force and represents Canada on the World Road Association's Asset Management Technical Committee. He is always available to municipalities to offer advice on matters relating to infrastructure assets.
is a professional consultant with a proven record of over 25 years in developing visions and strategies for the successful design and implementation of asset/infrastructure management and information technology solutions. In 1983, he graduated from DeVry as an Engineering Technologist. In 2002 he was sworn in as an O.L.S. O.L.I.P. G.I.M.. John has had a distinguished career in providing a range of services to municipalities. In 2017, he was instrumental in establishing a partnership with Ontario Good Roads Association (OGRA), Ontario Recreation Facilities Association (ORFA), and 15 Ontario municipalities collaborating in an Asset Management initiative.
