The MEA has been advised that the MTO, as a cautionary measure,  has made a decision to replace all of the "X-Lite" guiderail end treatments currently installed on provincial highways. Work is underway and these guiderail end treatments will be replaced with end treatments that are certified according to industry standards, as reflected in the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH). MTO also no longer permits the installation of X-Lite guiderail end treatments in provincial construction or maintenance contracts.
