As part of Ministry of Natural Resources ongoing updates to support natural hazard management and land use planning outlined in the province's Flooding Strategy, a new Working Group is being established to assist with updates to the Great Lakes St. Lawrence River System Natural Hazard Technical Guide.

The focus of this Working Group will be on Chapter 7, titled "Addressing the Hazard," which guides policy application for development and site alterations in hazard-prone areas. While technical updates to the guide are underway with the support of engineering consultants, the involvement of planning practitioners is now sought to evaluate Chapter 7 as it relates to on-the-ground implementation.

The time commitment would be approximately 1 meeting every 6-8 weeks, 1-2 hours per meeting with time between meetings required for review/feedback on documents.  The group would run from Winter 2025 to Spring/Summer 2026. The Ministry is inviting 2-3 municipal practitioners from Great Lake shoreline municipalities to contribute their insights.
